Screen-Time Neck Tension: Practical Tips for Northgate Desk Workers

8 min read

By Dr. Stephen Lachuta, Chiropractor at Northgate Chiropractic

Person working on a laptop with thoughtful posture at a desk

If your neck feels tight after a day of monitors, messages, and “quick” scrolls, you are living the modern North Seattle workday. Screen-related tension is common—and often responsive to better setup, smarter breaks, and supportive care when you need it.

Raise the screen, relax the jaw

Laptops on desks force a chronic downward gaze. A stand plus external keyboard is one of the highest-ROI setup upgrades for many people. Unclench your jaw; it pairs with neck tension more often than you notice.

The 20–20–20 idea (plus shoulders)

Every 20 minutes or so, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Add a slow shoulder roll. Tiny resets beat weekend rescue missions.

Phones are tiny desks

Bring the phone up instead of dropping your head. Voice input and shorter sessions help when you can.
